Common SEO Mistakes in Super.so and How to Fix Them

Boost your Super.so site’s SEO with quick fixes for titles, URLs, headings, images, and links.

Super.so is a powerful platform that allows you to build websites directly from Notion pages. It’s fast, flexible, and visually appealing, but SEO can be tricky if you’re not careful. Many users unknowingly make mistakes that hurt their site’s visibility on search engines. Here’s a guide to the most common SEO issues on Super.so and how to fix them.

1. Missing Meta Titles and Descriptions

Super.so automatically generates meta titles and descriptions from your Notion page titles and content. While convenient, these defaults are often too long, vague, or missing, making it hard for search engines to understand your page’s purpose.

The Fix:

• Manually edit meta titles to be concise, descriptive, and include your target keywords.
• Write unique meta descriptions for each page that summarize the content and encourage clicks.
• Use Super.so’s SEO settings for each page to override the default meta information.

1. Poor URL Structure

Notion’s page URLs can be long and include random IDs or numbers, which are not SEO-friendly. For example:

https://yoursite.com/notion/page-12345abc

The Fix:

• Use Super.so’s “Custom URL” option to create clean, readable URLs.
• Keep URLs short and descriptive, ideally under 60 characters.
• Include keywords relevant to the page content.

1. Lack of Proper Heading Hierarchy

Many Notion pages don’t follow proper heading structures. Using headings (H1, H2, H3) incorrectly can confuse search engines about your content hierarchy.

The Fix:

• Ensure each page has a single H1 heading (usually your page title).
• Use H2 for main sections and H3 for subsections.
• Avoid skipping heading levels, as it can negatively affect SEO.

1. Missing Alt Text for Images

Images on Super.so don’t automatically include descriptive alt text. Alt text is important for SEO and accessibility.

The Fix:

• Add clear, keyword-rich alt text for every image.
• Describe what the image shows and its context on the page.
• Avoid keyword stuffing, keep it natural.

1. No Sitemap or Robots Control

Search engines rely on sitemaps to discover pages. Super.so generates a sitemap automatically, but certain subpages might be blocked by robots.txt, especially if using Notion’s default settings.

The Fix:

• Check your sitemap at yoursite.com/sitemap.xml.
• Make sure important pages are not blocked.
• For pages blocked by Notion, consider duplicating or restructuring them in Super.so.
• Submit your sitemap to Google Search Console to improve indexing.

6. Slow Page Loading Times

Even though Super.so is fast, large images, embedded content, or heavy scripts can slow down your pages, which negatively impacts SEO.

The Fix:

• Optimize images before uploading.
• Limit the use of third-party embeds that increase load time.
• Use Super.so’s built-in lazy-loading features where possible.
• Regularly test page speed using tools like Google PageSpeed Insights.

7. Lack of Internal Linking

Notion pages often exist in isolation without links between them. Internal linking helps search engines understand the relationship between pages and improves crawlability.

The Fix:

• Link relevant pages together naturally in your content.
• Use descriptive anchor text instead of “click here.”
• Create a clear navigation structure for both users and search engines.

1. Not Using Structured Data

Structured data (schema markup) helps search engines display rich results like reviews, FAQs, or events. Super.so doesn’t automatically add structured data.

The Fix:

• Use Super.so’s custom code injection to add JSON-LD structured data.
• Focus on common schemas like Article, FAQ, or Organization.
• Test your structured data using Google’s Rich Results Test tool.

1. Not Optimizing for Mobile

Super.so sites are mobile-friendly by default, but content may still look cramped or images may not scale properly, harming mobile SEO.

The Fix:

• Test your site on multiple devices.
• Adjust font sizes, spacing, and image scaling for mobile.
• Ensure buttons and links are easy to tap.

1. Duplicate Content

If multiple Notion pages are very similar or you use the same content across different URLs, search engines may penalize your site for duplicate content.

The Fix:

• Consolidate similar pages into one authoritative page.
• Use canonical URLs in the SEO settings to indicate the preferred version.
• Avoid copying and pasting large blocks of content across pages.
