Avoid SEO issues caused by duplicate content between your super.site domain and custom domain by configuring indexing and redirects correctly.
If both your super.site domain and your custom domain are indexed, Google may interpret them as duplicate versions of the same content. This can split ranking signals between domains, reduce search visibility, and negatively impact your overall SEO performance.
Why this happens
Duplicate indexing usually occurs when both domains are accessible to search engines at the same time. Common causes include:
- Default domain indexing is enabled, allowing Google to crawl the super.site URL version
- Redirect to custom domain is disabled, so visitors and crawlers can access both URLs
- Search engines discover and crawl both versions before a preferred domain is established
How to fix it
To avoid duplicate content issues and consolidate SEO signals, follow these steps:
- Disable Default Domain Indexing This prevents search engines from indexing the super.site version of your site. You can do this by going to SEO section>Disable Default Domain Indexing
- Enable Redirect from Default Domain to Custom DomainThis prevents search engines from indexing the super.site URL of your site. Ensure all traffic and crawlers are automatically redirected to your custom domain.
- Confirm only the custom domain is indexable Verify that the custom domain is accessible and indexable, while the default domain is not.
- Use Google Search Console to monitor indexed URLs Check which URLs Google has indexed and confirm that only your custom domain appears in search results.
Best practice
Always use one canonical domain for SEO. This ensures all ranking signals, backlinks, and authority are consolidated into a single domain, helping your site perform better in search results.
