Optimize your images to improve page speed, accessibility, and search engine visibility. This guide covers image SEO best practices for Super websites powered by Notion.

Image SEO for Super Websites

Images play an important role in both user experience and search engine optimization (SEO). Well-optimized images can help your pages load faster, improve accessibility, and increase the chances of appearing in image search results.

Since Super uses your Notion pages as the content source, there are a few best practices you can follow to ensure your images are SEO-friendly.

Why image SEO matters

Optimizing your images can help:

• Improve page loading speed
• Enhance the user experience
• Increase accessibility for visitors using screen readers
• Improve your site's SEO performance
• Reduce bandwidth usage, especially on mobile devices

Best practices for image SEO

1. Use descriptive file names

Before uploading an image to Notion, rename the file so it clearly describes the image.

Good examples

• modern-office-workspace.jpg
• team-meeting-2026.webp
• product-dashboard-overview.png

Avoid

• IMG_4829.jpg
• Screenshot123.png
• image-final-v2.png

Descriptive file names provide additional context to search engines.

2. Compress images before uploading

Large image files can significantly slow down your website.

We recommend compressing images before uploading them to Notion using your preferred image optimization tool.

Aim for:

• Under 300 KB for most images
• Under 1 MB for large hero banners when possible

Smaller file sizes help improve loading times without noticeably reducing image quality.

3. Choose the right image format

Different formats are suited for different use cases.

Whenever possible, use WebP for better performance.

4. Use high-quality images

Avoid images that are:

• Blurry
• Pixelated
• Stretched
• Poorly cropped

High-quality visuals improve the overall user experience and create a more professional appearance.

5. Avoid unnecessarily large dimensions

Uploading a 5000 px-wide image when it's only displayed at 1200 px wastes bandwidth.

Resize images to approximately the largest size they'll be displayed on your site before uploading.

6. Keep image content relevant

Images should support the surrounding content.

For example:

• Blog posts should include images related to the topic.
• Product pages should feature the product itself.
• Team pages should include staff photos.

Relevant images help both users and search engines better understand your content.

7. Don't overload pages with large images

Using many large images on a single page can increase loading time.

Instead:

• Use only images that add value.
• Optimize each image before uploading.
• Break long pages into sections where appropriate.
