Videos do not autoplay on mobile devices due to browser restrictions, including in Super.so. To enable better autoplay control and mobile playback performance, it’s recommended to host your videos on Wistia and embed them into your site.
Video Autoplay in Super.so: What You Need to Know
Videos are a powerful way to engage visitors on your Super.so site, but autoplay behavior can be tricky, especially on mobile devices. Here’s everything you need to know to ensure your videos work smoothly for your audience.
Why Videos Don’t Autoplay on Mobile
Mobile browsers, including Safari and Chrome, restrict autoplay by default. This is to:
- Save bandwidth and data usage
- Prevent unexpected audio from playing
- Improve device performance
Because Super sites use Notion’s video embeds, they inherit this behavior, which means autoplay on mobile is limited. Some browsers may display a preview thumbnail, while others may require user interaction to start playback.
Desktop vs Mobile Autoplay
- Desktop: Autoplay works reliably, especially for muted videos.
- Mobile: Autoplay is often blocked, even for muted videos, and behavior varies across browsers and platforms.
Recommended Solution: Use Wistia
If autoplay is essential for your Super site, hosting your videos on Wistia is the best approach. Wistia provides:
- Reliable autoplay across devices
- Mobile-optimized playback
- Muted autoplay support
- Fast loading and smooth streaming
Embedding Wistia videos ensures your content performs well and delivers the intended user experience, without being blocked by browser restrictions.
Alternative Video Hosting Options
While Wistia is recommended for autoplay control, you can also embed videos from:
- YouTube
- Vimeo
Keep in mind that autoplay may still be limited on mobile with these platforms.
Tips for a Better User Experience
- Mute videos for autoplay — most browsers allow muted autoplay.
- Use previews or thumbnails — helps users know what to expect.
- Optimize video size — reduces page load time and improves SEO.
