Super lets you control how database items are loaded on your site using the Database max limits – only first page setting.
This setting is especially useful for large databases, as it helps prevent too many items from loading at once.
Configure the Database Load Limit in Notion
First, set the number of items you want to display per page in your Notion database.
- Click the Settings icon in your database.
- Choose Options.
- Look for Database Max Limits and select the number of items you want to display.
- Save Changes.
- When enabled: Only the first page of items is loaded, based on the database load limit configured in Notion. The Load More button is not displayed. This is recommended for databases with thousands of items.
- When disabled: Super displays the initial set of items based on the Notion database load limit and automatically provides a Load More button when additional items are available. Visitors can click the button to load more items.
For example, if your database contains 50 items and the Load Limit in Notion is set to 10:
- Enabled: Only the first 10 items are loaded, with no Load More button.
- Disabled: The first 10 items are displayed, and visitors can click Load More to load additional items.
This allows you to choose between loading only the first page for large databases or letting visitors browse additional items as needed.
Using nth-child with CSS
If you want to display a specific number of items (less than 10 items) visually, you can also use CSS to hide the remaining items.
For example, if you want to show only the first five items, add the following to Code → CSS:
/* Hide all items after the 5th one */
.notion-collection-gallery .notion-collection-card:nth-child(n+6) {
display: none !important;
}How it works
nth-child(n+6)targets the sixth item onwards.- Everything after the fifth card will be hidden.
- You can change the number to suit your needs.
Use this approach when you want to control the number of items visible on the page using CSS rather than the database loading settings.
