Social Media Preview: Uploading an Image in SEO

Learn how to set a social media preview image in Super’s SEO settings so your site links display correctly when shared on LinkedIn, Facebook, X, and other platforms.

A social media preview image controls how your site or page appears when shared on platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, X (Twitter), and other social platforms. Adding a preview image helps your links look more professional, eye-catching, and clickable.

Super supports two types of social media preview images:

• Custom Social Image — A specific image you set for an individual page.
• Default Social Image — A fallback image that is automatically used when a page does not have a custom social image.

This feature requires an active Super subscription.

Why Social Media Preview Images Matter

When someone shares your site link on social media, the platform automatically pulls metadata such as:

• Page title
• Description
• Preview image

Without a preview image, your link may appear plain or incomplete, which can reduce engagement.

Using a Default Social Image also ensures that pages without a custom image still have an image available when shared.

Requirements

Before setting a social media preview image, make sure that:

• You have an active Super subscription
• Search Engine Indexing is enabled for your site
• The page is published and indexable

Set a Default Social Image

The Default Social Image is used as a fallback for pages where you haven't uploaded a custom social media preview image.

For example, if you have 20 pages on your site and only 5 of them have custom social images, the remaining pages can use your Default Social Image when shared on social media.

To set your default image:

1. Go to your SEO SectionOpen your Super dashboard and navigate to SEO.
2. Enable Search Engine IndexingEnsure that Search Engine Indexing is turned on. This is required for social platforms to read your page metadata.
3. Find the Default Social Image optionLocate the Default Social Image setting and upload the image you'd like to use as the fallback image.
4. Save your changesYour default social image will now be used for pages that don't have a custom social image.

Upload a Custom Social Image for a Specific Page

If you want a particular page to have its own social media preview image, you can upload a custom social image for that page.

1. Go to your SEO Section Open your Super dashboard and navigate to SEO.
2. Enable Search Engine Indexing Ensure that Search Engine Indexing is turned on.
3. Click “Update Page SEO Settings” This allows you to customize SEO details for individual pages.

4. Choose the page Select the page where you want to set a custom social media preview image.
5. Scroll down to the Social Preview section Upload your desired image in the image upload field.

6. Click “Save Changes”Your custom social media preview image is now set for that page.

How the Images Work Together

Super uses the images in the following order:

Custom Social Image → Default Social Image

If a page has a Custom Social Image, that image will be used when the page is shared.

If no custom image has been set for the page, Super will use the Default Social Image instead.

If neither is configured, the page may be shared without a social preview image.

Best Practices for Preview Images

For best results across social platforms:

• Recommended size: 1200 × 630 px
• Keep important text centered, as edges may be cropped
• Avoid small or overly detailed text
• Use an image that works well as a general fallback if you're setting a Default Social Image

Final Notes

Changes may not appear instantly on social platforms due to caching. If needed, use platform tools like:

• LinkedIn Post Inspector
• Facebook Sharing Debugger
• X Card Validator

These tools can help refresh how your link is displayed and verify that the correct preview image is being used.
